Session Overview
Artificial intelligence can analyze information, identify patterns and produce recommendations. It cannot understand relationships, carry community responsibilities or recognize when something is technically possible but culturally inappropriate. Across many Indigenous families and communities, aunties hold important roles as mentors, caregivers, knowledge holders and trusted truth-tellers, although these roles are not universal.
This session will use "Aunty Intelligence" as a lens for examining what organizations need to hold on to as they adopt AI. Participants will consider where AI-supported tools in screening, performance reviews, high-potential identification and succession planning may reinforce barriers, misuse Indigenous knowledge or information, or remove the human judgment that responsible decisions require.
What You'll Take Away
- A relational perspective for examining the opportunities and limitations of AI
- Greater awareness of how AI may reinforce bias in hiring and talent decisions, or misuse Indigenous knowledge and information
- Questions for maintaining human judgment, responsibility and accountability when using AI-supported tools
Who Should Attend
This session is designed for organizational leaders, human resources, recruitment and talent-management professionals, procurement teams, Indigenous inclusion practitioners and others involved in selecting, implementing or overseeing AI tools. No technical expertise is required.
Where This Work Continues
April is the start of a new fiscal year for many organizations, and a good time to look at AI tools before they are built into hiring and talent systems. Indigenous Works advisors can help you review AI-supported HR tools and processes, and Leadership Circle members continue these conversations as the technology changes.
