Forum Overview
Major projects and equity partnerships are creating significant opportunities for Indigenous Nations and workers. Too often, though, Indigenous employment peaks during construction and falls away once the project is built. The same pattern shows up in many workplaces: seasonal roles, term contracts, grant-funded positions, internships and pre-employment programs that open a door but do not lead anywhere once they end.
Building on the Spring Forum's focus on growing talent, this forum will bring together Indigenous and employer perspectives on turning short-term opportunity into lasting careers, from training and entry-level roles through skilled trades, supervision and leadership. Major projects will offer a practical lens, with lessons for any organization. The forum will also look at what changes when Nations and communities are partners in designing training and workforce plans, not only sources of workers.
What You'll Take Away
- Perspectives on how Indigenous employment can continue beyond a project, contract or program
- Considerations for building training, hiring and advancement pathways alongside Nations and communities
- Questions for connecting short-term commitments to long-term workforce planning
Who Should Attend
This forum is designed for leaders, human resources professionals, workforce planners and Indigenous inclusion practitioners in any sector. It will be especially relevant to those in the resource, energy, infrastructure and construction sectors, Indigenous relations practitioners, and employment and training staff working with Nations and communities. No previous knowledge of the topic is required.
Where This Work Continues
Lasting careers depend on planning that starts long before a project, contract or program ends. Indigenous Works can support workforce planning and pathway design with you and the Nations and communities you work alongside.
