Spring FoAcross Canada, a generation of experienced workers is retiring, and employers in every sector are feeling the gaps in skilled roles, supervision and leadership. Nowhere is this clearer than in Canada's major projects, which will need trades, technical specialists, supervisors and leaders at the very moment that experience is walking out the door. Indigenous peoples are among the youngest and fastest-growing parts of Canada's population. Yet hiring alone will not fill these roles, on major projects or anywhere else. Experience, judgment and leadership have to be grown, and that takes intention.

Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, the knowledge and values that guide how Inuit live and work together, includes Pilimmaksarniq: developing skills through observation, mentoring, practice and effort. It is a reminder that people grow through relationships, not through programs alone. This forum will look at how employers can grow Indigenous talent for the roles they will most need: through mentorship that passes on knowledge before experienced workers retire, sponsorship that puts Indigenous employees forward for supervisory and leadership roles, and learning that flows in both directions. Major projects will offer a practical lens, with lessons that apply to any workplace.

Where This Work Continues
The workforce your organization will need in the coming years is being shaped by the development decisions you make now. Indigenous Works can help you plan for the roles ahead and review the mentorship, sponsorship and advancement practices that will grow people into them. Employer of Choice Certification looks at whether your commitments reach advancement as well as hiring.
