Mallory Solomon is an Anisininew (Oji-Cree) person from Constance Lake First Nation in Treaty 9 territory. Their spirit name, Gohn Gazhed Mtiwakii Kwe, means “Snow-Covered Forest,” and they belong to the Buffalo Clan. Mallory identifies as both Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer, understanding these identities as interconnected relationships between gender, sexuality, spirit, and community. Their worldview reflects balance, relationality, and living beyond rigid social categories.
Mallory earned a diploma in Early Childhood Education from Anishinabek Educational Institute before pursuing further studies in psychology after recognizing the growing mental health and behavioural challenges facing First Nation children and youth. They later completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology at Algoma University and fulfilled the coursework requirements for a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at Lakehead University. Mallory plans to continue their education through a Master of Psychotherapy program and pursue registration as a psychotherapist.
Their long-term vision is to establish a residential healing centre for First Nation youth at risk of suicide in Northern Ontario while contributing to culturally grounded, community-driven research initiatives.
Mallory also brings extensive experience in Indigenous leadership and advocacy. They previously served on the Oshkaatisak Council with Nishnawbe Aski Nation and held leadership roles with 2-Spirit in Motion Youth Council. They currently serve on several youth and advisory councils, including those with Ontario Native Women’s Association, Chiefs of Ontario, and Assembly of First Nations. Outside of their work, Mallory enjoys travelling, hiking, music, crafting, camping, and building with Lego.
